Short version

Storm damage chimney repair fixes what hurricanes and high wind leave behind. Lost caps and chase covers, torn flashing, loosened brick and a cracked crown are the usual list. Our team secures the chimney first, then inspects each part and writes up the repair for everything the storm damaged.

Chimney Damage After Hurricane Winds

Chimney damage after hurricane season tends to follow a pattern. Caps and chase covers held on by a few rusted screws come off first. Flashing that was already loose gets peeled back. The top courses of brick, soaked and softened over years, can loosen or fall.

Falling limbs and debris add their own damage, cracking crowns or knocking the stack out of line. A chimney that leans after a storm should not be used until it has been checked.

Chimney Cap Blown Off or Chase Cover Blown Off

A chimney cap blown off leaves the flue open to rain, so water runs straight into the firebox. A chase cover blown off leaves the framing of a chase open to the sky. Both are worth a temporary cover as soon as it is safe to get on the roof.

We fit a temporary cover where needed, then a new cap or chase cover fastened to sound masonry or framing, with stainless fasteners.

Hurricane Chimney Repair Done in the Right Order

Hurricane chimney damage repair starts with safety: loose brick is removed and the area below kept clear. Next comes keeping water out. Then the lasting repairs follow, from new flashing and crown work to rebuilding damaged courses.

Wind damaged chimney repair follows the same standards as any chimney work, NFPA 211 and the Florida Building Code, and we write down what we found and what we did for your own records. That written work record is useful to keep with your other storm documents.

Questions We Hear Often

How do you stop wind noise in a chimney?

Whistling or moaning in high wind usually means air is rushing across an open flue or past a loose cap. Fastening the cap down and closing the damper quiets most of it. Where the old damper will not seal, a top sealing damper closes the flue at the crown.

Signs This Work Is Due

High wind and driving rain find every weak point on a chimney. Typical storm damage is a cap or chase cover torn off, flashing peeled back, loose brick near the top and water running into the firebox. We make the chimney safe first, then repair each damaged part.

  • Cap or chase cover missing after the storm
  • Bricks or mortar on the roof or ground
  • Flashing bent or torn away
  • Water coming into the firebox or ceiling
